Music was my first love.....
Now those of you that have known me over the years will know that I love music, all sorts of different styles and genre (I know I'm getting quite posh in my old age).
From punk to opera, from rock to reggae, I love it all, apart from that 'rap music...
Rap - a form of popular music emphasizing spoken rhymes over heavily rhythmic backing tracks. (source)en.wiktionary.org/wiki/rap_music
...no sorry but it just doesn't do it for me, just sounds like a load of angry shouting? Even Polly Styrene was more melodic than rap, anyway I seem
to have lost the point a bit here, stop ranting on Toby!
Anyway I like music so I have listed below a few of my favourites, not in any particular order, hope you enjoy them.
Hey Mr Tangerine Man by Bob Dylan (1965) and then loads of other people.
Hey! Mr Tangerine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tangerine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.
That evocative sound of the mid 6os, is someone playing a mandarin on the backing track?
Green Tangerine by The Lemon Pipers (1967)
Drop your silver in my tangerine,
Help a poor man fill his pretty dream,
Give me pennies I'll take anything,
Now listen while I play,
My green tangerine...
This one really has got it all, green tangerine me as a young fruit, it's by the Lemon Pipers, showing solidarity with citrus fruit by using not only lemon,
but also pip in their title.Classic.
Going a bit more techno / electronic now, I love anything by Tangerine Dream, of course.
Those Germans certainly knew a thing or two about melodies, didn't they?
Didn't know much about stage craft though, I saw them live in the 70s, three long haired german blokes standing behind massive synthesisers the size of wardrobes,
with rows and rows of flashing leds.
Never said a single word to the audience, not even a guten tag, probably didn't even know that there were another 2,000 people in the room with them.
There wasn't for long though, most of the audience retired to the bar and listened to the concert from there, result for everyone really.
